Here are a few ideas for food, hikes, and things to do in the area. By no means a comprehensive list. Feel free to reach out with questions or for other ideas.
Activities:
North Face Hiking Trail
2,000ft up a high quality trail at Alyeska Ski Area in Girdwood. Beautiful views. Enjoy a beer at the top with option to take the tram down. Save the knees!
Bird Ridge - Chugach State Park
Quality popular uphill trail. 3,000 ft up. Beautiful views along Turnagain Arm. 25 minute drive from Anchorage.
Glen Alps / Flattop Trailhead
Access the Chugach mtns just behind town. Great starting point for a 10 minute walk or a full day in the hills.
Kincaid Park
Plethora of trails with nice views overlooking Cook Inlet.
Conveniently in town.
Wide walking/running trails and extensive mountain biking single track

Muktuk Marston Trail, Arctic Valley Trail Head
Our current favorite hike in Anchorage. Make it a loop along the Arctic Valley ridge. Starts and ends right at the wedding venue at Arctic Valley.
Independence Mine State Historical Park Visitor Center
1 hr drive north of town. Explore old Alaskan Mines perched in a beautiful mountain valley. Option of paved meandering trails as well as adventurous hiking.
Eagle River Nature Center
Beautiful flat and smooth trails in the Chugach mountains for easy walking. A great place to spot animals and wildlife. Amongst the mountains.
Interesting nature exhibits at the Visitor Center.
Anchorage Museum
Beautiful museum downtown with Alaskan art, history, science and culture.
Plenty of hands-on exhibits for kids at the Discovery Center!
Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center
Drive 45 minutes south of Anchorage. See wild Alaskan animals in spacious habitats. These are orphaned or injured animals that were rescued. Moose, bison, musk ox, wolves, and bears!

Great beer and greater pizza. An Alaska staple.
Whisky & Ramen
Delicious ramen and killer cocktails.

Great beer. Midtown.

Girdwood Brewing Company
Also great beer. In Girdwood.
Yak & Yeti Cafe
Nepalese/Indian inspired food. Grab and go or eat in casual setting.
Fire Island Rustic Bakeshop
Two locations. Same delicious baked goods, sandwiches, and coffee. Breakfast/lunch. This is the downtown K street location.
Snow City Cafe
Popular breakfast fare. Nice atmosphere. Sometimes busy (can join waitlist online). Downtown Anchorage.
Bear Tooth Theatrepub
Sister restaurant to the Moose's Tooth. Either sit in the restaurant or enjoy a beer + food while watching a movie.
Pizza, salads, Mexican-inspired food and margaritas.
Rustic Goat
Just across the street from our house. Quality comfort food in a bright atmosphere.

Best pizza in town per Matt. Nice atmosphere.
